Our stay in Leelanau is drawing
to a close so Saturday and Sunday were full of activities in spite of the
weather! Saturday was the Leland
Heritage Festival featuring antique cars and boats. Earlier in the week, Saturday's forecast was for sunny skies but it ended up with laden skies and a brisk breeze coming off
Lake Michigan.
We walked among the beautiful
antique cars and beautifully finished antique boats then left for Harry & Stephanie’s home for
cocktails. A word about the “antique”
boats …. some were within my age! I
guess I’ve become an antique!
I think my Father had one of these boats!
Boy Scouts in Leland area built this beautiful canoe
Doesn't it look like it's going to snow???
Sunday started out again with
laden skies and windy but by about 3:30 the wind died down and patches of blue
were starting to appear.
RON, JOANIE & BETH .... RON & BETH ARE PROTECTING US FROM HUNTERS!
Ron, Joanie,
Beth, Harry & Stephanie picked us up to hike Pyramid Point, a ½ mile hike up the dunes to a beautiful
(another one) overlook of Lake Michigan.
The dune is at a 45 degree angle
to the Lake so going down must be a blast and coming back up a bitch!
Off across the water Ron pointed
out the Manitou Islands. Harry pointed
to a marker as this is a ship’s channel for freighters. Unfortunately we didn’t see any freighters up
close, but in the distance we could see two freighters passing each other.
As usual Joanie prepared for the
apocalypse with help from Stephanie and a contribution of wine from me.
CHEERS!
A blanket was laid out and we all flopped
down, drinking our gin, wine or beer and snacking on peanuts and sesame
sticks.
Occasionally the sun would come out and shine on the dunes. Ron found his spot in the sun!!!!!
Beth & Ron enjoying the view .... and the views here never disappoint!
Doesn’t get any better than
this!
