BILLY MEETS LAKE ERIE
Made Lunder (lunch dinner) and we were finished by 5:30
and ready to explore our surroundings.
Took Billy for his long walk over to Lake Erie and walked the path down
to the beach. He romped across the sand
but came up short when he reached the water …. It was moving at him.
Sounded like the ocean in a west wind. He really enjoyed the sand and the large
pieces of driftwood which he tried to carry across the beach. He also noticed right away the water was
drinkable but would only go in to get a drink and get his feet wet. I suppose if it were a warmer day and we had
a ball, we could have enticed him into the water.
Since rain is
forecasted for Friday and Sunday, we took a drive around to see what’s
cookin’. Not much. Geneva on the Lake is a mile long “retro”
strip of bars, ice cream stands, miniature golf, etc. Not too much going on. Motels along the Lake are made up of small,
old cottages that go from the strip to the lake. There is history here, but I’m not finding
any old Victorian homes yet.
ROCKEFELLER,
FIRESTONE & FORD …..
MAKE FOR AN INTERESTING COMBINATION!
Can you picture
John D. Rockefeller, Harvey Firestone and Henry Ford camping? Well you’d have to picture it with their
servants setting up the tents and starting the campfire. Apparently, though, they did come here for
fun and recreation.
Think about
these three guys…..Ford developing the first affordable automobile; Firestone
making the tires and Rockefeller making the gasoline and additives. Think some of that discussion went on around
the campfire????
With the advent
of the automobile, the people came to this area and it became a vacation
favorite for many of the citizens.
