June 9th – Woke up to rain today. Rained until about noon which was about the
time we got started out the door.
Nothing happens fast anymore.
We drove over to Cayuga Lake (another Iroquois Nation)
to check out some wineries. We went by
way of Seneca Falls and saw this very picturesque town sitting on Cayuga
Lake.
The skies cleared and clouded up
somemore which made it a great day to be driving around.
Our first stop was Montezuma Winery and
Distillery. I think the “Distillery” is
what caught our attention. Anyway, their
vodka was honey based and a maple liquor –kinda hodge pode. We managed not to buy anything there.
We stopped for lunch along the Lake and the skies were
finally clearing. This whole drive is
winery after winery after winery. We
stopped at another winery but a bachelorette party was going on and you could
hear them in the parking lot. NOT.
So, we headed down the road apiece to Lakeshore
Vineyards. Now the tasting room here was
a barn dating back to 1825 with the huge chestnut beams. The wine was fine. We bought a bottle. Gonna stick it somewhere.
Lakeshore recommended we go to Eremita Winery in Lodi,
NY. Interestingly enough our first night
here we drove to Lodi for ice cream which was right in front of this
winery. Soooo, off to Lodi we go.
The winery is in an old (1800s) Presbyterian church
which was sold three years ago and purchased by Joshua Parker. It was beautiful inside . The wine tastings were $3/person and that’s
when Dave found out he only had $7 left.
. We had been discussing getting
to an ATM and kept hoping we’d find a Wells Fargo. We laughed and shared a
tasting.
Josh lived in Florida for several years so we had a
great time talking about places we knew.
When we bought a bottle of wine, using our credit card, he asked if we’d
like to get some cash. We thought that
was a great idea. How very
accommodating. Recommend this winery
highly, if for no other reason that the place and the people
We left with our bottle of red wine to go with the
steak for dinner and headed back to the RV.
We will be leaving Sampson State Park and heading for
Watkins Glen. We really are enjoying
this area and are in no hurry to leave.
I’m not sure I’m up for more wining, but there is lots to see in Watkins
Glen for the next few days.
