The most famous place here is Watkins Glen racetrack and the
Watkins Glen Grand Prix.
WATKINS GLEN held the first
Grand Prix in 1948 on the public streets near the village. It was the first post-WWII road race held in
the US and was the rebirth of American road racing. The permanent course opened in 1956 hosting
Formula One US Grand Prix (1961-1980) to NASCAR Spring Cup Series.
Little did it know that the CADILLAC CTS driven by Dave would be the winner of the day!
The engine roared, our hearts pounded and there was deep throbbing in our gut. We bolted off the start line heading down the Watkins Glen SCCA race track. The old Caddy CTS really had it in her as she reached peak speeds of 45 miles per hour (or was it 90). The Pace truck tried to keep us below 55 mph.
Her tires skidded and her engine throbbed (or was that skipped) in the open stretches as she went through her automatic gears! Such exhilaration, such speed, such driving prowess.
And....from the victory circle ..... Dave
WE WON!
With heart pounding exhilaration...totally satisfied with a successful run, the CADDY CTS with it's most talented drive, exit the track.
